"Deniz Kurdu-85" Exercise

Built at the Gölcük Shipyard and commissioned in 1980, the TCG Ç-136, an EDIC-class tank landing ship, sank during the "Deniz Kurdu-85" exercise in the Aegean Sea on January 30, 1985, due to a severe cyclone storm. 39 of our soldiers were killed.

As part of the exercise, elements of the Naval Command were conducting air defense, surface defense, and anti-submarine warfare training, while elements of the Southern Sea Area Command were scheduled to conduct an amphibious operation in Doğanbey Bay on the morning of January 30.

However, tragic news arrived towards the morning of January 30: TCG Ç-136 sank with 50 personnel and vehicles aboard.
Other elements participating in the exercise began searching the area. Eleven of our soldiers were rescued, the bodies of two were recovered, and 37 were determined missing, and the exercise was terminated.
