The martyrs' cemetery is located in the central cemetery of the Bergama district of Izmir. On July 12, 1943, four officers, four non-commissioned officers, and a private, Nuri Killigil, from the 205th Mountain Regiment, were martyred when a mortar shell exploded inside the barrel during a test fire. The incident occurred 200 meters south of Asklepion and 100 meters west of Ayvazali Creek.
