Monument to District Governor Kemal Bey
About
It was built in 1932 in memory of Menemen District Governor Kemal Bey and four gendarmerie privates who were martyred during the Greek occupation in 1919.
One side of the Martyrs' Memorial reads, "In the name of District Governor Kemal Bey, who was martyred for his homeland and independence by Greek bullets in the Menemen massacre on June 17, 1919, 1932." The other side of the memorial reads, "The gendarmes who were martyred along with District Governor Kemal Bey: Menemen Tülbentli M. Kabadayı İbrahim O. Hüseyin, the elder Osman O. Ahmet from the village of Değirmendere in Menemen, Hüseyin O. Hüseyin from the village of Balatçık in Menemen, and Cafer O. Hüseyin from the village of Kuzbeylik in Foça."
The memorial is located in front of the Menemen Municipality Building.
